In this section, we look at how to “dump” (copy) your games from your Wii U system over to your PC.

To do this, we’re going to need to use a custom homebrew application to dump your games. This is done using an exploit in the Wii U browser.

This process is different for physical and digital games, so select the method that applies to you.

Introduction

For this method, we will be dumping a physical disc game to an SD card or USB storage device. This can take some time.

After dumping, we copy the game over to the PC. Unfortunately, all Wii U disc images are encrypted, which means we need to decrypt them on our PC. Luckily this is quite easy.

Requirements

  • An SD card for homebrew and dumping
  • (Optional) A USB storage device to dump the game to
    • Only required if the game is too big for the SD card
    • Wii U games can vary in size up to 17GB, but having 12GB of storage should be okay for most games

Downloads

Preparations

  1. Extract the mocha.zip file to the root of your SD card
    • If prompted to, replace any pre-existing files
  2. Extract the homebrew_launcher.v.1.4.zip file to the root of your SD card
  3. Copy the config.ini file to the /wiiu/apps/mocha folder on your SD card
  4. Copy the payload.elf file from the payload.zip file to the /wiiu folder on your SD card
  5. Extract the disc2app .zip file to the root of your Wii U’s SD card
  6. Double check that you have enough storage space for your game
    • The maximum game size is around 17GB although few games are actually that large
  7. Eject your SD card from Windows and put it into your Wii U console
  8. Insert your USB storage if you are using one to dump to

Launching MochaCFW

  1. Turn on your Wii U console
  2. Launch the internet browser and open wiiuexploit.xyz
  3. Tap Run Homebrew Launcher!
    • If your console freezes for more than 10 seconds, hold down the Power button for 4 seconds and reboot
    • Once rebooted, reset the browser’s save data and try again
  4. Once in the Homebrew Launcher, launch MochaCFW
    • This should return you back to the Homebrew Launcher

Dumping

  1. Power on your Wii U console
  2. Ensure your target game disc is not inserted in your Wii U
  3. Open the Homebrew Channel
  4. Run disc2app
  5. Press (A) to dump to the SD card, or (B) to dump to your USB storage
  6. Insert the game disc you’d like to dump when prompted
  7. The game will now be dumped to \install\[TitleID] on your SD/USB device
    • This may take a long time, be patient
    • TitleID will be a 16-character string of numbers and letters
  8. Once finished, exit the application and turn off your console
  9. Remove your SD or USB device from your Wii U and insert it to your computer
  10. Copy the \install\[TitleID] folder from your SD or USB device to your Cemu games folder

Decrypting

  1. Extract the Cdecrypt .zip file to your dumped game folder
    • Not the Cemu games folder, but in the folder you just copied
  2. Double click the decrypt .bat file
    • This may appear as just decrypt if you have file extensions disabled
  3. Once done, you can delete all files and folders in the directory except for the code, content and meta folders

Introduction

For this method, we will be directly copying game files from your Wii U storage over to your PC.

This is done over the internet using an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) server and client. This will allow you to copy files over your local network directly to your computer.

This process involves accessing the Wii U internal memory! If you don’t follow the instructions correctly, you could potentially cause serious damage to your console.

Requirements

  • An SD card for homebrew

Downloads

  • The latest release of MochaCFW
    • This will also work with (Coldboot) Haxchi
  • The Mocha config
  • The latest release of Homebrew Launcher Installer
    • You will need to download the payload.zip file
  • The v1.4 release of The Homebrew Launcher
    • You will need to download the v1.4 homebrew_launcher.v1.4.zip release of The Homebrew Launcher
  • A modified release of FTPiiU (FTP Server)
    • If you use (Coldboot) Haxchi, download the latest release of FTPiiU (FTP server)
  • The latest release of FileZilla (FTP Client)

Preparations

  1. Download and install FileZilla to your computer
  2. Extract the mocha.zip file to the root of your SD card
    • If prompted to, replace any pre-existing files
  3. Extract the homebrew_launcher.v.1.4.zip file to the root of your SD card
  4. Copy the config.ini file to the /wiiu/apps/mocha folder on your SD card
  5. Copy the payload.elf file from the payload.zip file to the /wiiu folder on your SD card
  6. Download and move the ftpiiu.elf file to the \wiiu\apps folder on your SD Card
  7. Ensure you have enough space on your PC for your game
  8. Eject your SD card from Windows and put it into your Wii U console

Launching MochaCFW

  1. Turn on your Wii U console
  2. Launch the internet browser and open wiiuexploit.xyz
  3. Tap Run Homebrew Launcher!
    • If your console freezes for more than 10 seconds, hold down the Power button for 4 seconds and reboot
    • Once rebooted, reset the browser’s save data and try again
  4. Once in the Homebrew Launcher, launch MochaCFW
    • This should return you back to the Homebrew Launcher

Connecting to your Wii U

  1. Run FTPiiU Everywhere from the Homebrew Launcher
  2. On your screen you should see a line saying:
Listening for data connections at xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:PORT
where each x and PORT is a number
    • This is the IP address and port of your FTP server
  3. Keep this screen open on your Wii U
  4. On your computer, open FileZilla
  5. On the left-side panel, navigate to your Cemu games folder on your computer
  6. Enter in your IP address to the Host field on the top bar
    • This is the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx part
  7. Enter in your port to the Port field on the top bar
    • This is the PORT part
  8. When warned about an insecure connection, ignore and continue
  9. You should now see your Wii U storage displayed on the right half of the FileZilla window

Transferring Files

  1. If your game is stored on your Wii U internal memory, navigate to storage_mlc/usr/title/00050000
  2. If your game is stored on a USB storage device, navigate to storage_usb/usr/title/00050000
  3. In this directory, you should see folders with 8 character names
    • This is the last 8 digits of each games “Title ID”, which allows to Wii U to uniquely identify each game by a number, instead of a name
  4. You can use the full list of each game’s Title ID to identify which game is which, found here
    • Copy the Title ID of the game and use Ctrl+F to search for it
  5. Once you’ve found the game you want, drag and drop it to your Cemu games folder on the left-side panel of FileZilla

A lot of the data-less files will fail to transfer, but these can be ignored. To be safe, make sure to retry all failed downloads before exiting to ensure that all files that should be transferred have done so.

Your game should now begin copying over to your computer. This will take a very long time and you may want to go do something else while this is happening.

After this is finished, you can exit FileZilla and turn off your Wii U. You can then go to your Cemu games folder and rename the Title ID to something recognisable.
